Arctic Blast Yields but Keeps USA and Canada Paralyzed
Washington, Jan 8 (Prensa Latina) Several regions of the United States and Canada continue paralyzed today by mountains of snow and ice provoked by a polar vortex that lost strength but left at least 21 dead in recent days.
Weather forecasts in both countries show a slight rise in temperatures, which dropped to 46 degrees Celsius below zero in some areas.
The glacial front hit since last Sunday the Midwestern and northeastern of the United States, as well as Canadian Southeast with intense blizzards, heavy snow and freezing weather.
U.S. authorities reported at least 21 deaths in the territories of Michigan, Missouri, Chicago, Ohio, Indiana, and Alabama for hypothermia and incidents related to the storm.
Those states still maintain the schools closed, as well as several highways and the public transport service has suffer some interruptions due to the dangerous conditions to drive.
According to various media, in the United States, the shelters for the homeless and hospitals are crowded with cases of hypothermia and frostbite.
