Corals Influence Earth Temperature and Ocean Odor
London, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) Corals not only influence the regulation of earth temperature but also the odor of oceans due to a chemical produced under stress.
Specialized journal Nature published a study assuring also that molecules of the chemical compound favour the generation of water in the atmosphere and cloud formation.
According to experts, as ocean temperatura rises, corals produce more of this substance in the form of gas that protects that life-form against a stressful environment.
Most of marine corals are colony animals that contribute to the physical structure of coral reefs found in tropical and subtropical waters.
Previous studies say that at present these organisms are threatened by global warming, contamination of the seas, indiscriminate fishing, among other factors in which man plays a fundamental role.
In fact, publications like Nature have said the Great Coral Reef Barrier in the coast of Australia, has lost 50 percent of its corals over the last 30 years and the reefs of the Caribbean have lost about 80 percent.
