Japanese Mayors Condemn US Nuclear Experiment
Tokyo, Oct 31 (Prensa Latina) Mayors of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the only victims of an atomic bombing in History, condemned in respective letters to US President Barack Obama the nuclear experiments carried out recently by the United States.
"You have betrayed the hopes of the survivors of the atomic bomb and of millions of people that are struggling for elimination of nuclear weapons," said the text sent yesterday by Mayor of Hiroshima Kazumi Matsui to the US president.
The two Japanese politicians took into account what was reported by the US National Nuclear Administration, which carried out a test from July to September, with a small quantity of Plutonium to verify the capacity of the US nuclear armaments.
Matsui said that experiment questions Obama's commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons, as that head of State promised in a speech in Prague, the Czech Republic, in 2009.
Mayor of Nagasaki Tomihisa Taue spoke in similar terms in his message to the US president, according to the news agency Kyodo.
