Diseases in Iraq Increase Due to US Use of Depleted Uranium

Moscow, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) The use of depleted uranium in Iraq by the US Army caused a dramatic increase of diseases as leukemia, cancer, and several congenital sufferings, an interview published today by Russia Today (RT) revealed.

Doctor Sundus Nsaif told this television network that cities as Najaf, cancer has become more common than the flu, a tendency that is confirmed when visiting different hospitals, he asserted.

"After the beginning of the war in 2003, the rate of cancer, leukemia and congenital malformations increased dramatically in Najaf. The areas affected by the US attacks are those of greater incidence," the expert said.

According to his statements, everything seems to show that the cause of the phenomenon is the illegal weapons used, as those with depleted uranium, which would have been used by the US troops.

The increase of diseases is observed in different neighborhoods of the city, which is, mentioned among those that underwent harsh military actions, and even affects children born after the beginning of the war, according to the doctor.

She also said there is Government pressure for not talking about that issue, "maybe with the intention of not bothering the invading military forces."

However, Iranian Leila Jabar asserted that the armed confrontation is not over, "Americans left, but we are still suffering the consequences of the war."

Doctor Chris Busby, devoted to do research about the effects of depleted uranium, asserted that the only source of that substance in Iraq was the weapons used by the invading army of Washington.

Busby and his team analyzed hair samples from the parents of children with cancer to find out what toxic substance could be causing their diseases.

The only substance we found was uranium. We found uranium in the hair of the mothers with ill children, he told RT.
