South Korea and IEIA Discuss Fukushima Radioactivity

Seul, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) Yun Byung-se, South Korean foreign minister and Yukiya Amano, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held talks today in this city to discuss ocean radioactivity following the damage to the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Both high-level figures studied a plan to analyze ocean contamination in the surroundings of the nuclear plant.

South Korea took drastic measures, including the banning of fish and shellfish imports from eight Japanese prefectures surrounding Fukushima.

South Koreans have shown interest in joining the signed agreement between Japan and IAEA to trace radioactive substances that have leaked into the ocean from the Fukushima plant. South Korea's foreign minister said that there was no agreement at his first meeting with the IAEA director, but that discussions surrounding Fukushima's nuclear waste will continue in the future.
