Millions in Losses Due to Fires in Australia
Sydney, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Losses estimated at more than $90 million AUD so far, were the result of more than 50 fires raging north of Sydney, the capital of Australia and the State of new South Wales.
According to the Environmental Danger Response Center, the major outbreaks are focused on the towns of State Mine and Victoria, about 100 kilometers from the capital city.
Preliminary reports show 200 houses burned by the flames in these localities, with one fatality.
Firefighters and volunteers have been fighting for more than 72 hours to extinguish the flames, which also threaten the Blue Mountains resort town and are expanding, favored by high temperatures and strong winds.
Authorities have decreed a state of emergency and even analyzed the mobilization of the army troops due to at least 10 uncontrolled fires.
New South Wales is the most populous state of Australia, with more than 7.5 million inhabitants, of which 63 percent reside in Sidney.
