Saudi Arabia Reports Five New Cases of MERS Virus
Riad, Jan 1 (Prensa Latina) The number of people infected with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus increased with another five cases, reveals a report from the World Health Organization released here today.
The report includes a case in the United Arab Emirates, which have borders with the western part of Saudi Arabia.
According to the report, the new infected, one of them a 73-year-old Saudi citizen who died, include three Saudi health workers who showed no symptoms of the disease.
There are still no clear clues on that disease, which is considered a kind of mutation of the Accute Severe Respiratory Syndrome, hindering the creation of a vaccine, though it is suspected that it is found in camels.
So far 176 MERS virus cases have been reported worldwide, most of them in Saudi Arabia, and 74 of them have died. The symptoms of that disease include cough, fever, and neumonia.
