Egyptian Ports Closed for Bad Weather
Cairo, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) An icy wave sweeping the Levant and North Africa today forced the closure of two Egyptian ports in the north, Damietta and Alexandria, because of the strong winds, a government source said today.
The facility will be reopened as soon as weather conditions improve, said Essam Hassanieh, head of the port's central administration.
The strong winds that increase the feeling of cold, torn down date palms and caused the declaration of a state of emergency in the departments of Ambulances and Hospitals in both northern cities, the official added.
In the capital, the population experiments a drop in temperatures with thermometers below nine degrees Celsius and yesterday were reported light rains, an unusual sight for people from Cairo.
