Ecuadorian Scientists Prepare Expedition to Antarctica
Quito, Dec 22 (Prensa Latina) To develop investigation projects in Glacierology, Biology, Biotechnology and Geology, Ecuadorian scientists will start next January 5 the 18th expedition to Antarctica.
According to director of the Ecuadorian Antarctic Institute (INAE) Jose Olmedo, in this trip to conclude on March 15, they will study the carnivorous mammals like the sea lions and carry out seismic investigations, published daily El Telegrafo.
He added the mission will make an in-depth study of relations between climatic change between Ecuador and Antarctica and in observing microbe strains to find its agrotechnological potential.
Antarctica is the largest lab of the planet and our country has the opportunity, through its scientists, to be preasent in that continent to develop investigations like the World powers, expressed Olmedo.
Among the expeditioners who will remain at the Pedro Vicente Maldonado station, a center of Antarctic investigation operated by Ecuador, there are 19 persons belonging to the Ecuadorian Armada.
There are also 53 investigators including students from institutions of this South American nation, he said and stressed the interest of making the Ecuadorian station permanent.
