Temporary Closure of Factories in Beijing to Control Pollution
Beijing, Dec 27 (Prensa Latina) About 200 factories provisionally closed their doors in Beijing in 2013, as part of the actions taken by the authorities against pollution, reported today an environmental protection official of this capital.
According to Zheng Zihong, deputy chief of this department, one of the sectors that reduced its production was the cement, with 1.5 million tons less, what represents decreasing by 110,000 tons coal consumption, which emissions appear among the most dangerous for human health.
The official emphasize that the branches of economy most affected by Environmental protection actions were those of construction material, chemicals, furniture factory and the most affected suburbs are Tongzhou and Fangshan.
The deputy chief of Power Conservation Department, Liu Ming, said that the closure and modernization of polluting industries have greatly reduced air pollution in Beijing, that observers noted that there were weeks of more concentration during this year.
In a conference with the press Liu stated forward that henceforth, companies involved in the production of cement, petrochemical and steel will also have difficulties to have the approval for future projects due to the strict emission control measures.
