Japan to Shut Down Operating Nuke Plants in September
Tokyo, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) The National Regulation Authority (NRA) will shut down on September 15 the only two operating nuclear plants of this country to check them, according to some reports.
With 50 nuclear plants, Japan shut down 48 of them since March 11, 2011, after the Fukushima incident, which was caused by an quake and the ensuing tsunami.
These two plants, located in Oi locality, kept operating to prevent energy shortage in Kansai region, the second most populated of the archipelago.
Kansai Electric Power company, which operates both plants, requested the NRA to set in motion routine inspections on September 2 in plant three and on September 15 on reactor four.
According to Japanese laws, all nuclear plants must be shut down and go through a security inspection every 13 months.
Before the Fukushima incident, the worst since Chernobyl in 1986, Japan received nearly a third of all of its energy needs from nuclear plants.
