Singapore Works in a Potential Vaccine against Dengue

Singapore, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) A scientist research Institute in Singapore believes is about to produce a vaccine to prevent dengue, capable of developing resistance to the virus within the immune system.

Specialized journal PlosPathogens published a report on the finding of the Agency for Science and Technology, which announced a period of clinic test starting at the end of 2013.

According to the source, experiments with monkeys showed that inoculation was effective against Den-1 and Den-2, main strains responsible for and epidemic that this year infected over 14 000 people and killed five in the country.

The researcher team, head by doctor Katja Fink worked in collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Diseases Novartis and Microbiology and Epidemiology Institute of Beijing.

Reports from the World Health Organization indicate that each year dengue virus attacks about 100 million people, mainly in Southeast Asia, where Singapore is located.
