Phnom Penh, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) Flash floods have killed at least 13 people and affected about 3,000 families in Cambodia since early this month, a disaster control spokesman said Wednesday.

Four provinces being hit by floods are Banteay Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kampong Thom, and Kratie, Keo Vy, chief of the Cabinet of the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), said.

"Eleven deaths were in northwestern Banteay Meanchey and two others were in northern Kampong Thom," he told Xinhua over telephone.

Besides, he said, some 20,000 hectares of rice paddy were inundated.

Floods usually hit Cambodia between August and October. In 2011, the country was hit the worst by floods, which killed up to 250 people, according to the NCDM.

Last year, the floods claimed 14 human lives.
