Central America on Alert from Cholera in Mexico
San Salvador, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) Central American nations will examine next Tuesday the adoption of common actions to prevent expansion into the region of cholera outbreak in Mexico, El Salvador authorities announced here.
Secretary of Vulnerability, Jorge Melendez, informed the media that, for the time being, no cases of the illness have been detected.
Due to the outbreak in Mexico, we need the consensus of the region, as national measures are not enough, said Melendez, according to a report of El Mundo daily.
The official insisted that for the moment, the country will maintain only the actions of surveillance already in force by the Ministry of Health.
El Salvador has not registered cholera cases since 2000, when up to 629 persons were reported with that illness, recalls the newspaper.
