Second Migratory Bird Festival to be Held in Cuba
Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban peninsula of Guanahacabibes, a refuge for more than 200 species of birds located on Cuba's westernmost tip, will host the 2nd Migratory Bird Festival Oct. 22-24.
The community of El Valle will be the main venue for lectures, photo exhibitions, and video screenings, according to Osmani Borrego, an expert with the Guanahacabibes National Park.
Students and other locals will participate in these events, which include opportunities for bird-watching.
Surrounded by lush vegetation, El Valle is an ideal place to admire the area's natural wealth and contribute to its preservation, Borrego commented.
Guanahacabibes receives three species of sea turtles during the spawning season (from May to September), when their nests and the birth of the young turtles can be observed.
Local investigators monitor the arrival of birds of prey from other countries, in coordination with an obervatory in Texas, US.
