Washington, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) The city of Flint, in the state of Michigan, United States, remains affected by the health crisis caused by high levels of lead in the water, following a switch of water supply due to budget cuts.

The University of Michigan and a hospital in Flint are setting up a team of specialists to monitor the situation that has been affecting inhabitants for 18 months, while training themselves to offer nutritional advice.

At the same time, the city receives donations of bottled water from around the state and National Guard members travel to the site to help distribute the water, filters and other supplies.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder agreed in April 2014 to stop receiving the water from the Detroit system and use the closer Flint River supply to cut costs.

As the composition of the river is very corrosive, when the water passed through the pipes took lead from them and joined the stream, hence, the blood of adults and children was poisoned.
