UN Supporting Typhoon-hit Philippines
United Nations, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations reported that it is helping the Philippine government to assess the damages caused by Typhoon Haiyan and is preparing resources to be sent to aid victims.
According to a press release, the UN chapter in the Philippines is working with local authorities in identifying the needs of the people and gathering resources to meet those needs.
Today, Haiyan hit Samar Island with winds of over 295 kph (a Category Five hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale), devastating roofs and trees.
The typhoon killed three people and left seven injured, according to preliminary figures.
