Syria and WHO Analyze Syrian Health Needs
Damascus, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) Saad al- Nayef, Health Minister of Syria, highlighted the need of working jointly with World Health Organization (WHO) in recovering the affected health infrastructure and finding ways to reach all sick people of the country.
In a meeting held with Samir Bin Yahmud, Health Program Director at the Mediterranean Regional Office of WHO, the Syrian Health minister pointed out the context of those needs when more than 41 hospitals and 673 health centers are out of service while 412 ambulances have been destroyed by terrorist attacks in Syria.
In most recent actions of that nature, armed groups attacked health centers in Adra region, at northern Damascus, leaving them destroyed and several employees injured, said al-Nayef.
Syrian health sector has recorded the death of 174 workers, 116 injured and 33 kidnapped as result of the violent actions of Islamic extremists opposed to President Bashar al- Assad's administration, said also al-Nayef.
Regarding the current anti-polio campaigns carried out in Syria, al-Nayef explained how Syrian Health ministry distributed eight million vaccines to all areas, after receiving them from UNICEF while they expect another million vaccine to arrive.
For his part, Bin Yahmud highlighted that WHO insists on calling to stop the attacks on Syrian health centers.
