The president of the Ukrainian parliament Alexandeer Moroz underlined the humanitarian gesture of the Cuban people in caring for thousands of children and adults who were victims of the nuclear plant accident in Chernobyl occurred nine years ago.

On the opening of the memorial to pay homage to the workers who went to reduce the consequences of the catastrophe, Moroz stressed the Cuban action to respond to an appeal to the international community aimed at eliminating the sequelae of the major nuclear breakdown occurred in the planet.

The head of the Ukrainian parliament recalled the specialized medical care offered by the Caribbean island to more than 14 000 children and adults in sanatoria and centers devoted to this endeavour.

The explosion of the fourth reactor in the Chernobyl plant occurred in April 1986 and caused the death of 125 000 people until now just in Ukraine whereas the total number of affected people, taking Russia and Belarus into account, exceeds 500 000 persons.
