“Ukraine reiterates gratitude for the Cuban assistance to Chernobyl victims”,Gramma newspaper, page 7, May 20th 1995.
Ukraine welcomed today Roberto Robaina, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, and reiterated its deep gratitude for the unprecedented solidarity gesture of the Caribbean nation to take care of thousands of children affected by the Chernobyl accident.
During the fraternal ceremony at the Kiev’s airport, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Relations Constantin Grichenko underlined the acknowledgment of the Ukrainian authorities to the work of the Cuban specialists aimed at overcoming the consequences of the nuclear tragedy.
The Cuban Minister of the island began today a three-day official visit to this country and the first activity was the meeting with the head of parliament Alexander Maroz.
The legislative leader conveyed a message of gratitude to the Cuban physicians and to President Fidel Castro for the affective humanitarian gesture of rendering specialized care service to more than 12 000 children.
The Cuban chancellor will fulfil tomorrow an intense program in which he will be received by President Leonid Kuchma and by his counterpart Guenadi Udovenko with whom important agreements are foreseen to be signed.
HOMAGE PAID TO MARTI
The Cuban Foreign Minister attended today to the inauguration of a marble slab dedicated to National Hero José Martí on the occasion of the Centennial of his death in struggle. At the beginning of his official visit to Ukraine, Robaina stressed the happy coincidence of this visit with the date when Kiev population found a place in their hearts to pay homage to the work of this great man.
