“Children Medical Center launched in Ukraine with Cuban collaboration

An International Children Medical Center with Cuba cooperation was opened in this city by the Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma, in the presence of several ministers and local dignitaries and the Cuban Ambassador Sergio López Briel.(...) The facility will diagnose, prescribe treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian children affected by the Chernobyl accident. About 27 000 children annually will benefit for the services that five Cuban doctors provide, specialists in pediatrics, hematology, endocrinology, dermatology and psychology, which share this attention with their local colleagues.

The Ukrainian president, when opening the Center, stated his appreciation for Cuba, "with its invaluable assistance in difficult times made us think about what Ukraine can do for their own children and as a result, this installation appears."

"I have had the opportunity to witness, repeatedly – he added - the speeches of the President of Cuba, Fidel Castro, in various international forums, addressing to the international community a call to continue the example of Cuba to treat our children, but unfortunately many people do not hear well. “On his behalf, the Ambassador of Cuba ratified the will of the Cuban authorities to increase collaboration in assisting Ukrainian children, and he said that the Cuban program is and has been above any political and economic circumstances, as its bases on high international concept of the Cuban people and its Revolution.”
