Chernobyl, CUBAN HUMANITARIAN PROGRAM

Beyond our borders

EupatoriaIn Ukraine, there is a Cuban paediatrician working as coordinating physician. He is based in Kiev and his work is directly linked to that of the Ministry of Health in that country and of the Young Fund of Chernobil. One of his main functions is the selection and classification of children chosen by the Ukrainian authorities to travel to Cuba. He performs his work in the capital, and also he visits different regions and provinces according to the Ministry planning.

On the decision made by the Ukrainian president in 1998, a sanatorium for rehabilitation of Chernobil accident-affected persons was opened up in the city of Evpatoria, Krimea province. From that date on, a Cuban medical brigade performs there. This brigade is made up of a paediatrician, a family doctor, a haematologist, an endocrinologist, a psychologist and a Russian language translator. This rehabilitation program, which is advised by our specialists, takes care of 5000 to 6000 people every year.
