Chernobyl, CUBAN HUMANITARIAN PROGRAM

Benefited from the program

From 1990 to 1992, our country received 2 715 children and 213 adults from Russia, and 671 children and 59 adult people from Belarus.

Ukraine is the only country that has been present in the program for 19 years; 16 689 children and 3 661 adults have been benefited by the Cuban program.

In the context of the Cuban program, patients from Moldavia (4) and Armenia (11) have been treated.

The experience accumulated by Cuba in the medical assistance of children affected by Chernobil accident has prepared us to advise and to provide medical aid to other peoples in need,  as in the case of 53 Brazilian persons, who were affected by handling Cesio 137 radioactive source in Gioiana city.

And more recently, a group of Venezuelan families living on marginal areas also manipulated Cesio 137 radioactive source.
