Classification of patients

Group I:

Patients with disabling oncohematological illnesses who will undergo complex surgical treatment.

• They represent 3% of the total number of patients coming in this flight.
• They should travel accompanied by a member of their family.
• They generally stay at hospital for long periods depending on their recovery.
• They require hospitalization.

Group II:

Patients suffering any disease that are not included in the previous group.

• They represent 17% of the total number of patients included in this flight.
• Under 8 years-old children are accompanied by a member of their family and the older children by guides or educators.
• Approximately, 45-60 day stay .
• They also require hospitalization.

Group III

Patients suffering diseases that may be treated at home in the outpatient service. They do not need being hospitalized.
 
• They represent 60% of the patients who travel to Cuba.
• They are accompanied by guides or educators.
• A 45-day stay

Group IV

Apparently healthy children for medical check-up.

• They account for 20% of the total number of patients
• They come accompanied by guides or educators.
• No hospitalization is required, just stay at the sanatorium
• A 45-day stay.
